This course is designed for anybody who might have to identify and manage emergency situations, or deal with very minor everyday occurrences, whilst looking after young children and babies. The course is aimed at anybody who comes into contact with children including pre-school staff, nursery staff, play workers, children centre staff, teachers, Learning Support Assistants, holiday camp workers, parent and toddler group volunteers, child minders, nannies, foster carers, au pairs, parent helpers, babysitters, community workers, youth workers, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
This QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) qualification is ideal for those who work or intend to work in a childcare setting as it has been specifically designed to fulfil Ofsted’s first aid requirements for early years teachers, nursery workers and childminders (as defined within the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 and within the Child Care Register guide).

Paediatric First Aid Training – Course Aims:
The aims of the Paediatric First Aid Training 2 Day course is to equip the delegate working within the childcare sector with a sound knowledge and understanding of adult, child and baby first aid procedures. All attendees will also be able to recognise childhood medical conditions and carry out the correct emergency treatment required until the emergency services arrive.
This Course content covers the essential life saving skills for babies, infants and young children in play settings and the home environment. Each course can be adapted to mirror the working environment and surroundings of your particular child care setting.
Course content includes:
- First aid kit – what they contain and why
- How to assess an emergency situation
- Action planning
- How to assess an emergency situation
- Dealing with an unconscious infant or child
- Wounds and bleeds
- Fractures and dislocation
- Sickle cell anemia
- Resuscitation and CPR for children and babies
- Asthma and croup
- Head injuries
- Foreign objects
- Febrile convulsions
- Dealing with a poisoned casualty
- Head, Neck and Back injuries
- Ear, Nose and Eye conditions
Assessment and Certification:
Accreditation: Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF).
Candidates will be assessed by ongoing practical assessment throughout the course by the tutor. There will be multiple choice question paper to answer in respect of their knowledge. A Certificate will be issued to the delegate subject to successfully completing the assessment which is accredited and valid for 3 years. The qualification meets the criteria defined for first aid training in the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework (EYFS) and Ofsted first aid requirements for registered childminders. It can also be used as evidence for employees working towards an NVQ in Childcare and Education.

Each Delegate will receive a FREE Paediatric first aid manual on attending this course and because this is a fully accredited Paediatric first aid course you can be assured that you have fulfilled your legal responsibilities for providing quality first aid training to your staff.
