Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults Training SOVA

Course Information

Everyone has the human right to live a life that is free from abuse and neglect. ‘Safeguarding’ means protecting vulnerable adults who are at risk and need support. It is fundamental to ensuring high quality health and social care.

Abuse can affect anyone, but a vulnerable adult, broadly speaking, is someone who is over 18 years old who has, or may need, help with their everyday lives and who is unable to protect themselves against significant harm or exploitation. Some adults are less able to protect themselves than others and some have difficulty making their wishes and feelings known. This may make them vulnerable to abuse. They may also be vulnerable because they are in need of community care services due to mental health problems, physical or learning disability, age or illness.
